About Teresaa
I am intrigued by aesthetics, color, form, texture, the concept of extremes, and Vedic Art, all of which are inextricably woven into my artwork.
My first encounter with art was studying painting and sculpture in the early 1980s, when I lived and worked on an island in the south of Sweden called Öland. Öland is known as THE place to be for an artist during the summer. At this time of year, the island has an absolutely amazing natural light occurring almost 24/7 due to the sun reflecting off of the mineral composition in the sea floor rocks. The result is a completely surreal, but natural light that can’t be found anywhere else in the world, and which caused me to see color in a new light – literally!
Nature’s 4 elements of fire, water, earth and air have also influenced my artwork. Understanding the innate qualities in each of these elements makes it possible for me to relate to the world in a more balanced way.
Balance. Symmetry. Stillness. I like that. I also like its opposite: Provocation. Action. Movement. My creative process could perhaps best be described as when extremes meet. Stillness meets movement; light meets density; glossy meets layered. These extremes are currently coming into play as I explore a new medium called Cinemagraphics, where elements of photography (stillness) and motion (action) are merged into one, and which to me perfectly blends and highlights these concepts.
I see my artwork as an extension of myself. So when I paint, it is important to me to interact with what is on the canvas as I create it, because the painting “tells” me the next steps in the creative process. I also like to incorporate texture into my artwork as it can bring so much to the forefront: body, excitement, intrigue and depth. This gives the painting character and also helps to reveal the unseen, and to some degree the unknown, within the painting. By using this approach, I gain a unique understanding of the world, and ideally, the spectator emerges wiser after encountering my art as well.
Enjoy ♥
